Content:
Ever wondered how Edison came up with the light bulb? How Walt Disney turned a simple Mouse into millions of dollars? Or perhaps you are intrigued to know how someone comes up with an idea like the I-phone?
Great ideas need geniuses behind them, right? Well, ….. maybe not….. This course will take you through some of the tools and tricks to being more innovative and creative.
We will begin with a little brain surgery, well ok, perhaps not that extreme. However we will at least take a journey through the workings of your brain, in order to understand the codes and patterns that both, help us live our daily lives, and stop us being the next Steve Jobs. An awareness of the way in which our brain works will help us to trick and train it into becoming more effective.
We will also visit and interact with other people’s innovations, and the innovators themselves where possible, to have a sense of what drives them to create and why.

Methods:
This course will therefore look at the following techniques:

Lateral Thinking; Brain writing; Osborn Checklist; Harvey Cards; The Lotus Blossom Technique; Random Input; Reverse Brainstorming; COCD Box; 6 Thinking Hats and Wishing, to name but a few.

Of course these techniques might not mean anything to you now (because if they did you would not need to come to class). Yet, if you want to be able to come up with ideas that will change the world, then come along and see how crazy and out-of-the-box you can be…..The class involves both individual and group project work. We learn mainly through experimentation with different techniques and materials.
