Our theater course consists of two modules, each with a special focus:

Improvisation/Character Work

Paul Clements will lead this module.
Paul improvisation course
Mike Leigh's method of creating drama from actors’ improvisations is widely acknowledged to have produced some of the finest screen and stage acting of recent times. Beginning with actors basing a character on a real person they know or have observed, Leigh's method enables actors to create immensely rich, detailed and truthful characterisations while at the same time allowing them enormous creative freedom and fun.
Paul Clements was Director of the School of Drama, Welsh College of Music and Principal of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. He is author of the Improvised Play, the work of Mike Leigh. He has worked in theatre and film in the UK and in Europe and is co-holder of the Berlin Film Festival Blue Angel Award (2002) for his work on the Danish film Minor Mishaps.

Alexander Technique for Actors

Jude Tisdall will lead this module.
Jude improvisation course
We will explore ways of moving with greater ease and freedom. Participants will experience working from a balanced and neutral place and in a way that is intellectually, physically and emotionally harmonised. We will consider how the actor’s habits may interfere with a character, by considering the actor’s consciousness and the character’s consciousness. In addition to group work each student will have one-to-one tutorials.
Jude Tisdall has worked with actors and performers for many years – working in England, Denmark and Nepal. She has been Deputy Principal of a major UK theatre school and is currently on the faculty of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts working with Post Graduate and BA theatre students.

Both Paul and Jude are looking forward to leading this course!
